Gastrointestinal Tract and Back Pain

Many people are un-aware that gastro-intestinal irritation, i.e. Colitis, IBS, Diverticulitis, Diverticulosis, Ulcers and Pancreatitis can and will result in back pain. It is very common for the back pain to be much more apparent symptomatically than the gastrointestinal issues. There is a direct neurological link between your gastrointestinal tract and the muscles of your back.

Many people are aware that gallbladder problems frequently manifest as shoulder pain and a heart attack may manifest as pain in the shoulder rather than the chest. The neurological connection is very similar for gastrointestinal problems to cause back pain. If you suffer from chronic back pain that seems to resolve and then come back frequently, it is very possible that your back pain is being caused by irritation of the gastrointestinal tract. Irritation of the gastrointestinal tract can cause misalignments in the spine. These misalignments of the spine caused by gastrointestinal tract irritation can become so severe that they may actually cause disk herniation.

Blood tests and colonoscopy can detect problems of the gastrointestinal tract, but not until significant damage has already occurred. Irritation of the gastrointestinal tract can be detected earlier by a doctor who is trained to perform a palpatory examination and a 24 hour urine test.

Medication to treat gastrointestinal problems always comes with side effects. Treatment of gastrointestinal problems with enzyme therapy can help the body heal itself without the risk of serious side effects associated with prescription medication.
